Welcome

Narrative Learning post.  I wanted to create a Blog where we could share our ideas.

  1. I'm glad that you are understanding the concepts of all of the theories. As for communication in your group, I saw that another group is thinking of using the Blackboard Messenger (instant messaging). Do you think your group could utilize this as a means for communication?

  2. I think it is great that you see a need for a concept we are discussing in class, spiritual learning, in the real world work that you do at Ivy Tech. I like that you challenge the concept of transformational learning. Maybe with age and maturity comes the ability to deal with changes better thus the move did not turn your life upside down like it may have for some? I am a group of one so hearing about how you guys communicate is interesting. I find it is quicker to talk in person (just my preference) maybe skpye or facetime is something to look into.

    1. I don’t see my situation much different than ten years ago, so what do we term the learning I have done in the last ten years?
---- You may call it constructivist learning, a learning which is like building a mosaic, you have your own learning assumption in your mind (a general picture of what the mosaic looks like), you add one and another piece of information to it. Transformative learning is different in that your assumptions are challenged, and you have to change them or revise them, which is hard since your assumptions are built on your history and your past experience. Instructors can provide some scenarios to stimulate assumption changes. For example, pairing learners who have different assumptions to discuss a topic, facilitating learners to travel to a foreign place to experience the cultural differences, using dramatic personal experience or stories as cases to analyze how the unexpected events can shake our assumptions, etc.
